A case series highlighting a common approach to identifying anti-Jk3

Abstract The Kidd-null phenotype, Jk(a–b–), is rare, and a patient with this phenotype may develop anti-Jk3, red blood cell (RBC) antibody reactive domain common to both Jk b . Like other antibodies high-prevalence antigens, the presence of poses challenges in immunohematologic evaluation these patients. Thoughtful laboratory testing necessary resolve specificity reveal underlying antibodies. Moreover, rarity makes finding donors difficult for those who need transfusion have developed anti-Jk3. This review describes methods used identifying anti-Jk3 four pregnant Blood bank records were retrospectively reviewed illustrate approach identification. In all cases, pertinent history was gathered, extended RBC phenotyping performed, followed by adsorption studies selected RBCs.
